Root Canal Treatment
When a tooth's nerve becomes infected or dies, root canal treatment can save it. Rather than losing the tooth, we clean and disinfect the inside, then seal it to keep bacteria out. It means you keep your own natural tooth for longer.

About The Treatment
What is root canal treatment?
Inside every tooth is a soft core of nerves and blood vessels called the pulp. Deep decay, a crack or an old injury can let bacteria reach it. Once the pulp is infected, it can’t heal on its own.
Root canal treatment removes the infected pulp. The dentist then cleans, shapes, and seals the canals inside the root. Afterwards, most back teeth need a crown to protect them, as a root-filled tooth can become more brittle over time.
Signs you might need root canal treatment
- Lingering toothache, especially when biting
- Sensitivity to hot or cold that doesn’t settle
- A tooth that has darkened in colour
- Swelling or tenderness in the gum near a tooth
- A recurring spot or “pimple” on the gum
Some infected teeth cause no symptoms at all and are only found on an X-ray. That’s one reason regular check-ups matter.
How much does root canal treatment cost?
The cost depends on the tooth and how complex the root canals are. Front teeth usually have one canal; back teeth can have three or four. We’ll give you a clear, written treatment plan with costs before anything starts.

Benefits of Root Canal Treatment at Teeth & Face Birmingham
What to Expect
Your Root Canal Journey at Teeth & Face
01
Assessment
We examine the tooth and take X-rays to see the shape of the roots and how far any infection has spread. We'll explain your options, including what happens if you choose not to have treatment.
02
Getting comfortable
The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic before we begin. If you feel nervous, tell us. We'll go at your pace and talk you through each step.
03
Cleaning the canals
Using a dental microscope, we remove the infected pulp, then clean and shape each canal. The magnification lets us see fine detail inside the tooth that would be hard to see otherwise.
04
Sealing the tooth
The canals are filled and sealed to stop bacteria getting back in. Depending on the tooth, treatment may be completed in one visit or spread over more than one.
05
Protecting the tooth
Most back teeth need a crown afterwards to strengthen them. We'll talk you through this at the start so you know the full plan.
I had my re root canal treatment done at teeth and face. I was really nervous cause I didn’t have a good experience the first time, but the process was really smooth, felt no pain at all, I was reassured and carried along through out the whole thing. I’m so happy.
