About The Treatment

What are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are injectable biostimulators that repair and regenerate the skin at a cellular level. Rather than replacing volume like a dermal filler, or mainly hydrating like a skin booster, they prompt the skin to repair itself. They stimulate cells called fibroblasts to produce fresh collagen and elastin, improve hydration, and strengthen the skin’s support structure, building healthier, stronger skin over the following weeks and months.

How do polynucleotides work?

Polynucleotides work on the fibroblast cells that produce collagen and elastin. They also improve the skin’s blood supply, calm inflammation and support the skin’s natural repair. Instead of covering the signs of ageing, they improve the skin’s health and quality, so the change is gradual and looks natural.

What can polynucleotides treat, and are they right for me?

Polynucleotides suit people who want to improve skin quality without surgery, and they are particularly effective around the delicate under-eye area. They are commonly used to improve:

  • Under-eye dark circles and tired-looking eyes
  • Fine lines and crepey skin
  • Dull, uneven texture and sun damage
  • Loss of firmness on the face, neck and décolletage
  • Ageing, thinning skin on the hands
  • Redness linked to rosacea

They suit both younger patients wanting to slow the early signs of ageing and more mature patients wanting to restore skin quality. At your consultation, Dr Cat will confirm whether polynucleotides are the right choice, or suggest a better option if not.

How polynucleotides compare

Polynucleotides vs Profhilo

Both improve skin quality but work differently. Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid treatment that mainly hydrates the skin and stimulates a little collagen, so it suits dehydrated or dull skin and mild laxity. Polynucleotides trigger the skin’s own repair, building collagen and elastin, calming inflammation, and strengthening the skin, making them a strong choice for crepey skin, dark circles, sun damage, and rosacea-prone skin. You can combine the two, and Dr Cat will advise what suits you.

Polynucleotides vs tear trough filler

Both can improve tired-looking eyes, but they solve different problems. Tear trough filler replaces lost volume under the eye. Polynucleotides improve the quality of the under-eye skin itself, building collagen and strengthening delicate tissue. For thin, crepey skin or dark circles caused by skin quality rather than lost volume, polynucleotides often give a natural improvement without adding filler. Some people do best with a combination.

Benefits of polynucleotides

  • Regenerates from within

Stimulates your own collagen and elastin rather than masking the signs of ageing.

  • Brighter under-eyes

Improves crepey under-eye skin and helps soften dark circles caused by thin skin.

  • Smoother, firmer skin

Softens fine lines and tightens crepey skin across the face, neck and chest.

  • Better hydration and texture

Improves the skin's moisture, tone and overall quality.

  • Natural, gradual results

Improvement builds over the weeks following treatment and continues after your course.

  • Minimal downtime

Most people return to normal quickly, with only short-lived redness or small bumps.

FAQS

Your Polynucleotides Questions Answered

Everything you need to know about Polynucleotides at Teeth & Face. Can't find your answer? Get in touch, and we'll be happy to help.

How much do polynucleotides cost?

The cost depends on the area treated and how many sessions you need, so it is confirmed after a skin assessment rather than quoted blind. At your complimentary consultation, Dr Cat will assess your skin, discuss your goals and give you a clear written quote, with no obligation to go ahead.

What are polynucleotides made from?

Purified DNA fragments derived from salmon, refined into a safe, biocompatible product that supports the skin's own repair. The DNA is extracted and purified during manufacture.

Are polynucleotides safe?

Polynucleotides have a well-established safety record when carried out by a suitably qualified medical professional. As with any injectable there are some risks, and Dr Cat will review your medical history and go through these with you beforehand.

Do polynucleotides hurt?

Most people find the treatment very comfortable. A topical numbing cream can be applied first.

How many polynucleotide treatments will I need?

Usually a course of three sessions, roughly 2 to 4 weeks apart, followed by maintenance every 6 to 12 months.

When will I see polynucleotide results, and how long do they last?

Many people notice a difference after the second session, with collagen building for several months. Results typically last 6 to 12 months, depending on your skin and lifestyle.

Can polynucleotides help under-eye dark circles and tired eyes?

Yes. They are one of the most popular treatments for crepey under-eye skin, fine lines and dark circles caused by thin or poor-quality skin. Dr Cat will confirm at your consultation whether they are right for you.

Can polynucleotides help rosacea?

Polynucleotides have anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce redness and improve skin quality for some people with rosacea. They are not a cure, but can form part of a wider plan.

Can polynucleotides treat the neck and chest?

Yes. They are an effective treatment for crepey skin, fine lines and sun damage on the neck and décolletage.

Who is not suitable for polynucleotides?

Treatment may not be suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, certain autoimmune conditions or a fish allergy. Dr Cat will review your medical history first.
